How can I
help the team?
There are many ways that parents
can help to build a stronger team.
Many new parents start by helping at
dual meets or at the winter invitational.
A parent will coordinate workers
for each meet. An easy job to learn is "timing".
If you can run a
stopwatch, you can be a timer.
This also puts you right down in the middle
of the action, with a great view of the races.
You can also help with the
concession stand, or with the awards.
These jobs do not require much
experience.
You may also choose to learn a more technical job, such as
running the timing system,
scoring the meet, or working with the clerk of
course.
Parents who enjoy the sport and want to learn more about it
may
opt to become certified as USAS officials.
Another way to help the team is to
become a board member.
The board is comprised of ten members:
President
Vice-President (2 years, with the second year as president)
Treasurer (2 years)
Recording Secretary (1 year)
Corresponding Secretary (1
year)
two one-year members
two two-year members
and the head coach.
Elections are held at the summer award banquet.
As a board member, you
will have an "area of expertise",
or specific responsibility, such as
fund-raisers, public relations, or meet workers.
